Description
Mostly at a park level, projects encompass a broad range of research, operational, andeducational activities across all aspects of cultural resource stewardship activities, including but notlimited to inventory, monitoring, research, rehabilitation, reconstruction, restoration, preservation, documentation, data recovery, education, and climate change mitigation and adaptation. This project supports the first stages of interpretation and education for the indigenous america 250 HRS through community, NPS training, and data sharing engagement. Indigenous america 250 is a community-driven research project that examines the revolutionary war and its aftermath from the perspectives of tribal nations. Indigenous self-determination and the reclamation of indigenous identity informs indigenous data sovereignty (IDS), an assertion of the rights and interests of indigenous peoples in relation to data about them, their territories, and their ways of life. Developing shared understandings of IDS is a critical component of relevant research related to indigenous peoples, and to the ethical translation of that research into educational and interpretive materials in national parks (to be accomplished in phase 2). Shared understandings of IDS facilitates effective outreach and engagement. This is a necessary step for building out CO-created material with tribal communities. The workshops support the NPS strategic and management goals of capacity building for tribal members to tell their own stories at NPS units and within NPS documentation. Phase 1 will have a significant impact on the success of NPS units around the IR1-NAA to engage with tribal communities around the history and meaning of the revolution. Beneficiaries include state and local governments, federally recognized indian tribal governments, nonprofit organizations, educational or scientific institutions, associations, individuals.
