Description

Developing targets of resilience across everglades national park coastal ecotones programming supports a comprehensive network of cooperative study units to facilitate cooperative research, technical assistance, education, and training to inform science-based management of the national park system. The study units facilitate multi-disciplinary science and integrated information products across multiple geographic regions of the national park system. This project is to improve the ability to recognize and evaluate changes in the transition zone ecotones within everglades national park (ENP) that include impacts of restoration activities, climate, and sea level changes. IT will improve the status of natural resources and critical habitats in the everglades by developing a method to obtain measurable targets across the coastal transition zone that may be used to assess impacts of restoration activities and that also take into consideration climate and sea level changes. This project will add to public knowledge of how to restore wetland ecosystems and increase understanding of the measures needed to preserve and protect this ecosystem for the benefit of future generations. University faculty and students will acquire technical expertise about the importance of resilient targets that incorporate changes in sea level and climate and the project will contribute to the body of scientific literature and knowledge about the southern everglades hydrologic and ecologic systems
