Description

Mobilizing pediatric provider networks: an education & training initiative to prevent and control infectious disease threats - national association of pediatric nurse practitionersmobilizing pediatric provider networks: an education & training initiative to prevent and control infectious disease threatsas the world has learned from covid-19, the spread of infectious diseases can strain health care systems, destroy lives and cripple economies. According to the CDC, there have been 4,339,997 covid-19 cases and 148,866 deaths as of july 29, 2020 in the united states. CDC professionals are experts in infectious diseases, so IT is critical that their voice be heard by health care professionals and the public to protect america from health, safety and security threats. Nurse practitioners, nurses and other health care providers are on the front lines of preventing and controlling the spread of infectious diseases. Pediatric-focused advanced practice registered nurses (aprns) apply advanced knowledge and clinical skills in many facets of health care, including providing anticipatory guidance; prescribing medications and other treatments; and promoting positive health behaviors and self-care skills through education. By disseminating the CDC?s information to them and training them on proper procedures and protocols, the national association of pediatric nurse practitioners (napnap) can help stop the spread of infectious disease threats.napnap has more than 45 years? Experience educating pediatric-focused nurse practitioners, with 9,000 national members in 53 chapters throughout the U.S. And a vast network of health care association allies. We will leverage these assets to implement a multi-pronged approach to assist the CDC in the dissemination and adoption of guidance, clinical guidelines and best practices, and targeting and training frontline personnel to prevent and control the spread of emerging and RE-emerging infectious diseases. Short-term outcomes will include increased NP/nurse awareness of CDC best practices and guidelines and increased number of NP/nurses who FI ND, use and benefit from CDC resources. Long-term outcomes will include improved clinical outcomes among patients with or who are at increased risk for emerging infectious diseases and decreased community-acquired infections across public and private settings.activities for this project will include hosting a one-day symposium on the infectious disease in question using a virtual platform that will be made available to napnap members and other pediatric-focused nurses, nurse practitioners and health care providers; conducting a general session on the specific infectious disease at napnap?s national conference, generally attended by 1,500 ? 2,100 pediatric-focused aprns; developing a continuing education (CE) course that will be accredited for both nursing and medical education credits; and recruiting and engaging at least 53 champions, one for each napnap chapter, who will train their peers as part of a train-the-trainer program. Virtual and online offerings will allow the project to reach heath care providers who practice in rural settings. Throughout the program, CDC materials will be disseminated through a dedicated page on the napnap website, a digital toolkit posted on the website and shared with all health care providers who register for the online training opportunities and through six facebook live events. Materials will be adopted as needed for non-english speaking and low-literacy patients.napnap will utilize existing partnerships with fellow health care associations to broaden the audience for the CDC?s message, inviting members to serve on the multidisciplinary steering committee, attend the virtual symposium, become champions and take the CE course. Through these activities, napnap aims to achieve the long-term outcome of engaging and training more than 6,000 health care providers, leading to fewer community-acquired infections across public and privat
