Description
TAS::80 0119::tasusra cooperative agreement - recovery act funding"water supply & management in california scalable to regional & national applications: an integrated framework for water resource management and irrigatoin optimization." - cfda 43.0006THIS project is a collaborative effort among jet propulsion laboratory (JPL) NASA ames research center (ARC) and NASA marshall space flight center (msfc). The overall objective of this effort is to create prototype hardware/software infrastructure to improve water management in the SAN joaquin river watershed in california (scalable to other regions) that integrates NASA information products and models.statement of work and deliverables:water management within the SAN joaquin portion of california's central valley is a balancing act between temporally and spatially limited sources and competitive needs which can often exceed the supply. At this time there is not a single system which integrates the entire range of technically practical information physical processes user community's needs and political or legal constraints. NASA's applied science program has initiated an effort to develop the seeds of such a system. This project is a collaborative effort among jet propulsion laboratory (JPL) NASA ames research center (ARC) and NASA marshall space flight center (msfc). The overall objective of this effort is to create prototype hardware/software infrastructure to improve water management in the SAN joaquin river watershed in california (scalable to other regions) that integrates NASA information products and models. The msfc's component of this effort is in two distinct elements: a) generating a precipitation (rainfall) product using data from next radar (nexrad) and b) soil moisture and evapotranspiration (physical processes for which plant evaporate water) estimation using what is technically termed a distributed hydrologic model. These elements will be delivered to ARC to be integrated into the terrestrial observation and prediction system (tops). These two msfc components will be provided as discrete deliverables by separate vendor organizations with the necessary specialized skill sets and demonstrated capability to provide the products in a timely and cost effective manner.
