About this award
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration awarded a cooperative agreement totaling $1.415 million to the University System of New Hampshire, University of New Hampshire division, on August 1, 2026, under the Office of Response and Restoration program (CFDA 11.998) to establish and operate the Coastal Response Research Center for five years through July 31, 2031.
The Center delivers applied research and tool development addressing the nation's disaster response and restoration community through workshops, working groups, and research projects. The Center facilitates collaboration across federal agencies and the wider response community by producing publications, hosting workshops, and supporting participation in conferences. It coordinates with the Oil Pollution Act's Interagency Coordinating Committee on Oil Pollution Research (ICCOPR), participates in the American Petroleum Institute's biannual Spills Advisory Group, and supports ICCOPR in preparing its hexennial research and technology plan led by the U.S. Coast Guard. The Center provides training and educational opportunities through workshops, internships, and degree programs designed to train government, industry, and academic personnel—undergraduate and graduate students, responders, practitioners, scientists, and engineers—for careers in response and restoration.
Work is performed in Lee, New Hampshire. Portions of the Center's work are funded through external partners including the U.S. Coast Guard, the Oil Spill Recovery Institute, and the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, conducted in concert with NOAA's Office of Response and Restoration.
