About this award
The Parley Foundation will provide $1 million in ocean stewardship services under a cooperative agreement awarded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration through the Marine Debris Program (CFDA 11.999). Over the two-year period from September 2022 through February 2024, the Foundation will conduct 16 ocean stewardship clinics bringing at least 250 underserved youth to the ocean. Additionally, the Foundation will host over 600 educational sessions at its Parley AIR Station community hub, an outdoor classroom and upcycling workshop space, reaching an estimated 30,000 individuals. Project activities will focus on creating connections between oceans and disadvantaged communities while upcycling 2,500 lbs of marine debris. The Marine Debris Program supports efforts to identify, reduce, and prevent marine debris in U.S. coastal waters and territories to mitigate impacts on the marine environment and navigation.
Description
These clinics focus on creating a connection between the ocean and disadvantaged and underserved youth. Sixteen ocean stewardship clinics will take place focusing on bringing at least 250 underserved youth to the ocean. Project activities will include activations at or in coordination with the parley air (avoid, intercept, and redesign) station, a community hub dedicated to inspiring action for the oceans at a community level. The station is composed of an outdoor classroom, upcycling workshop, meeting space, and immersive art exhibits. The project hopes to reach at least 30,000 individuals through over 600 educational sessions and will upcycle and repurpose at least 2500 pounds of marine debris as an educational tool.
