About this award
The Arizona Association of Conservation Districts Inc. (AACD) received a $100,000 cooperative agreement from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) under the BLM Fuels Management and Community Fire Assistance Program (CFDA 15.228), awarded September 16, 2025, with a completion date of September 15, 2030. This award continues a 15-year partnership focused on advancing community wildfire resilience and hazardous fuels management across Arizona's rangelands and forest lands. AACD will deliver landscape-scale brush control and fuels reduction treatments utilizing mechanical, hand-cutting, and chemical methods targeting high-wildfire-risk areas identified by state and local BLM field offices. The organization will implement pre- and post-treatment monitoring using standard BLM Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring (AIM) terrestrial core methods to track treatment effectiveness.
Key products and services include establishing local work groups to engage producers, governmental agencies, and stakeholders in wildfire risk reduction planning and Community Wildfire Protection Plan development; providing wildfire prevention education and outreach; and utilizing local certified technical specialists and companies to execute on-the-ground treatments while building rural capacity and jobs. Building on prior accomplishments since 2010—including 36 completed conservation plans, treatment of 43,598 acres, 23,459 acres of pre-treatment monitoring, removal of 58,090 tons of biomass, and 12,000 acres of cultural resource surveys—AACD will continue supporting BLM's multiple-use mission through a scalable model designed to reduce hazardous fuel loads and limit catastrophic wildfire spread across priority acres in Arizona.
