Description

Our mission is to support the management and conservation of the morley nelson snake river birds of prey national conservation area (NCA) through science, education, outreach, and partnerships. Since bopps establishment, our organization has made education and outreach activities a major focus. Over the last eight years we have reached thousands of people through a wide variety of public outreach activities, programs and events. Our success comes as a result of the hard work and dedication of our board of directors and a small group of our supporters, almost entirely on a volunteer basis. Through this cooperative agreement we seek to bolster our capacity to continue providing the top-tier activities and programs that we currently have in place, and to expand our education and outreach program so that we can increase our reach local, and beyond. We seek to expand our programs to include groups that are currently economically underserved in our community (e.g. partner with the idaho office for refugees, and trails access projects which seeds to increase access to public lands for disabled persons). We also hope to foster our existing relationship with the shoshone-paiute tribe to RE-initiate a successful project that provides natural resource career development opportunities for high school students at the duck valley reservation, which CO -manages a greenhouse complex with BLM that is adjacent to the owyhee combined school. This opportunity will also enable bopp in provide support for our NCA staff members who bring blms live ambassador birds of prey to locations throughout the treasure valley, which is one of the most powerful tools we utilize to connect the public with this amazing landscape, promote ecologically ethical recreational activities and a promote a public land stewardship. Activities to be performed: snake river raptor fest annual outreach event promoting stewardship and appreciation of the NCA that includes local art, food, music, and provided family-friendly activities with dozens of our local agency, non-profit and educational partner groups habitat improvement public outreach events: o exotic weed removals o native plant installations o seed collections o native seed tray planting activities o trash clean UPS native shrub and forb production activities in partnership with the shoshone-paiute tribe national public lands day events NCA field trips with students to provide stem-based learning opportunities ambassador bird presentations in partnership with our NCA staff and local raptor rehabilitator continue to develop and promote engaging virtual presentations with our community partners and agency staff through these activities we hope to increase our already vast reach. With approximately 1000-1250 attendees at each of our five in-person snake river raptor fests since the inaugural festival in 2018 that celebrated the 25TH anniversary of the establishment of the NCA, we have reached thousands. Many of the festivals attendees have lived in the treasure valley for much of their lives but have not been exposed to the rich history of the purpose and establishment of the NCA. However, as more people move from out of state, our festival provides a first opportunity to reach new members of our community and promote the wide variety of recreational opportunities the NCA provides. Additionally, our online programs (e.g. virtual presentations, social media blogs articles) greatly expand outreach, and have provided not only national, but international participation in bopps education and outreach engagements.
