Description

Through this project, the wood river trails coalition (wrtc), a trail stewardship nonprofit organization based in hailey, ID, will assist the bureau of land management (BLM) with building new trails surrounding the communities of hailey and bellevue, idaho. The project will support the initial phases of a long-term trail maintenance and monitoring plan that the wrtc will continue in partnership with the BLM after the construction phase of this project.over the course of the project period, wrtc will help the BLM deliver 24 to 32 miles of new trail built to sustainable standards. Wrtc will work as a team with BLM staff, partners, and other local resources to complete all proposed activities.wrtc will complete layout, design and corridor flagging for 6 to 8 miles of trail annually. Wrtc will utilize professional trail builders to build new trails via machine and hand-built construction techniques. Wrtc will develop and execute an annual trail maintenance plan and fully implement IT every year. Wrtc will hold three volunteer work parties annually to assist with maintenance and engage the public. Wrtc will also install three trail counters each year on a rotating basis to establish trail use data and trends and generate annual project progress reports along with trail monitoring reports. Wrtc will work alongside BLM staff in overall project oversight and management. Wrtc will utilize social media and e-newsletter to publicize the project and the blms commitment to the four strategic pillars in the blueprint for 21ST outdoor recreation this project will accomplish all four pillars. The intended beneficiaries are local citizens who live within walking or biking distance from these planned trails. This project will greatly enhance the quality of life for the residents of hailey and bellevue, who are mainly the permanent residents of this area. Most existing trails are located north of hailey therefore, this project will reduce barriers to the outdoors for a population that has been historically underserved when IT comes to multi-use trails on public lands.another beneficiary of this project will also be tourists, who contribute in a significant way to the local economy. A new trail network will bring in new tourist dollars to the communities of hailey and bellevue, particularly during the spring and late fall, when the northern trail networks are too muddy or covered in snow, and tourist dollars typically slow down.wrtc will leverage their organization and partnerships to complete this project and care for the results into perpetuity. Wrtc is an organization for all trail users, and IT is important to wrtc that these trails serve the depth and breadth of our local community, as well as serve as an entry point to outdoor recreation for those who may not have had the opportunity to experience our nations public lands yet. This project presents an outstanding opportunity to realize our vision alongside our BLM partners and give the gift of trails to future generations
