About this award
The Quillayute River Historic Oxbow Restoration Project is a multi-year, multi-stage effort led by the Quileute Tribe and funded through a $570,000 Cooperative Agreement awarded by the Bureau of Land Management under the Good Neighbor Authority (CFDA 15.015) program. The project aims to reconnect and restore over 3 miles of off-channel salmon habitat and 100 acres of floodplain along the Quillayute River. Key activities include rehabilitating and rerouting an access road, replacing an undersized culvert, and conducting noxious weed treatment and riparian planting over multiple years. The project is scheduled for completion by August 4, 2029, with the oxbow reconnection planned for 2026. This cooperative effort spans lands owned by the Quileute Tribe, the Washington Department of Natural Resources, Ecotrust, and the Bureau of Land Management.
Description
The quillayute river historic oxbow restoration project is a multiyear multistaged effort being led by the quileute tribe to reconnect and restore a historic meander bend oxbow to the main channel of the quillayute river. The project area includes lands own by the quileute tribe WA department of natural resources ecotrust and the BLM. The historic oxbow restoration will reconnect and restore more than 3 miles of offchannel salmon habitat and more than 100 acres of floodplain. Reconnection is scheduled for 2026 but before that can happen the current access road must be rehabilitated and partially rerouted including replacing an undersized culvert that acts as a fish passage barrier. Rehabilitation and partial relocation of the access road is planned for 2025. The tribe also plans to conduct multiple years of noxious weed treatment and riparian planting.
