Description

Adams institutes public lands stewards program. This intern will maintain and build public knowledge and support for management activities at the west eugene wetlands through outreach and educational programming. Specifically, this intern will lead field trips in the west eugene wetlands for k-12 students, and develop an event for american wetlands month, a pollinator event, and a national public lands day event. The intern will also market and present lessons at libraries and summer camps focusing on the work done in and ecological importance of the west eugene wetlands. Additionally the intern will increase public awareness by writing wren newsletter articles, social media posts, and other informative media to keep the public up to date and engaged with the work being done in the west eugene wetlands. Through the described educational activities and marketing efforts IT is expected that the intern will reach 1,500 combined youth and adults in the bethel, eugene, and springfield communities by the time the internship is complete. The intended beneficiaries of this project are families, adults, and school children grades k-12 in the bethel, eugene, and springfield oregon communities. The BLM is also an intended beneficiary as these educational lessons and marketing strategies will further build public knowledge and support for management activities in the west eugene wetlands. This internship project will build on the past 5 years of success shared by wren and the BLM through similar intern projects, and continue to deepen the communitys understanding of the wetlands.
