About this award
This federal Cooperative Agreement award from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Research and Data Collection program (CFDA 15.808) provides $164,158 to North Carolina State University to advance the utility of regional climate modeling for understanding the impacts of extreme temperatures on human and ecosystem health in the U.S. Caribbean and Southeast U.S. The primary activities include developing regional climate data to fill gaps and better support climate adaptation decisions, leveraging this data to engage stakeholders, and analyzing uncertainties related to climate change. The expected outcome is to provide more informed decisions for various sectors impacted by climate variability and change, such as natural resource management, epidemiology, urban planning, and engineering. The award period runs from April 9, 2025 through April 8, 2029.
Description
Advancing the utility of regional climate modeling for extreme temperature impacts on human and ecosystem health within the US caribbean and southeast usproject period: 04 09 2025 through 04 08 2027THE purpose of this research is to provide decision-relevant regional climate data for climatechange adaptation decisions within the southeast US and US caribbean, especially those relatedto extreme heat and humidity. A major activity within this research is to develop regionalclimate data to fill regional climate data gaps and better support adaptation decisions. Thisregional climate change data will then be leveraged to engage stakeholders to provide bettermetrics to support a broad variety of adaptation decisions. Analysis will seek to betterunderstand uncertainties related to climate change including comparisons with other datasets thatcould be used to support similar decisions. The expected outcome is more informed decisions forvarious sectors of our economy as IT relates to climate variability and change. In particular, itwill benefit decision makers wanting to identify specific risks posed by climate change such asnatural resource managers, epidemiologists, urban planners, and engineers. This data may alsobe used to support future national climate assessments. No subrecipient activities.
