Description

One objective of this project is to continue to provide USGS and the landsat calibration and validation working group with independent and SI-traceable data used to validate and monitor the radiometric calibration of landsat 8 and 9 OLI. A second objective is to provide support for the validation of ARD products through various ground-based techniques, which includes the use of new instrumentation being used to characterize various ground-based test sites. A tertiary objective of this proposal is to facilitate the training of students in the practical applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in order to develop the next generation of remote sensing scientists and engineers. Since its inception, the remote sensing group has provided many students with training and practical hands-on experience, which has translated into promising careers in academia, industry, and government service. The work proposed here will provide students with the opportunity to gain practical experience with formalized protocols and standards for data collection, modelling, and analysis.
