About this award

This Cooperative Agreement award, valued at $1,016,093, was granted by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) under the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (CFDA 15.810). The award will fund the Missouri Geological Survey to complete four geologic mapping projects over the period of September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2025.

The key deliverables include producing bedrock geologic maps for nine full and four partial 7.5 quadrangles, which will be published as PDF documents and digital GIS products. The Missouri Geological Survey will also create GEMS geodatabases for all new mapping projects and eight newly digitized geologic maps. This new bedrock geologic mapping will provide the state with a greater understanding of potential environmental impacts, geologic structures influencing water resources, industrial mineral resources, and critical mineral availability. The intended beneficiaries include local and state government agencies, mineral industries, environmental consultants, geologic engineers, and academia across Missouri.

Description

Activities
The missouri geological survey will complete four geologic mapping projects that address new mapping opportunities and support the goals of the united states geological surveys national cooperative geologic mapping program: 1. New 1:24,000-scale bedrock geologic mapping and gems implementation of six full and four partial 7.5 quadrangles in the kansas city 30 x 60 quadrangle, and gems implementation of six additional 7.5 quadrangles in the olathe 30 x 60 quadrangle in northwest missouri.2. New 1:24,000-scale bedrock geologic mapping and gems implementation of three 7.5 quadrangles in the sullivan 30 x 60 quadrangle in east-central MISSOURI3. Gems implementation of two bedrock geologic maps of varying scale in the ST. Francois mountains area of missouri.4. Submission of statemap fact sheets to ncgmp.deliverables and expected outcomes:the missouri geological survey will produce bedrock geologic maps for nine full and four partial 7.5 quadrangles. These maps will be published as PDF documents as well as digital GIS products. Gems geodatabases will be created for all new mapping projects and eight newly digitized geologic maps, per the award deliverable requirement.new bedrock geologic mapping will give the missouri geological survey a greater understanding of potential environmental impacts, local and regional geologic structures that can influence surface and groundwater movement, local and regional industrial mineral resources for infrastructure development, and critical mineral resource availability that addresses state and federal needs.
Intended beneficiaries
