About this award
The University of Minnesota, through its Minnesota Geological Survey, has been awarded a $209,091 Cooperative Agreement from the U.S. Geological Survey's National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (CFDA 15.810). The award, which runs from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2026, will support new geologic mapping in Koochiching County in northern Minnesota. Additionally, the funding will facilitate the completion and conversion of geologic maps for Polk and/or Pennington Counties into the USGS's Geologic Map Schema (GEMS) database. These mapping activities are part of the state's ongoing County Geologic Atlas program, which aims to map the geology of all 87 counties in Minnesota at a 1:100,000 scale. The deliverables from this award will contribute to building a comprehensive geologic framework to support resource management and decision-making in Minnesota, as well as national-level mapping initiatives.
