About this award
The Cooperative Agreement award, with a total funding of $817,822, was provided by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) under the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (CFDA 15.810). The award supports new detailed geologic mapping in three project areas in Idaho (Weiser-Boise, Salmon, and Elk City), as well as updates to geologic map databases in five additional areas. The key deliverables include seven 1:24,000 scale geologic maps with subsurface interpretations and updated geologic map databases. These products will serve the long-term goal of populating the entire state of Idaho with detailed, up-to-date geologic maps and GIS geodatabases. The geologic data and maps generated through this award will benefit a range of stakeholders, including state agencies, engineering/environmental consultants, mining/petroleum companies, timber firms, federal land managers, and academic researchers.
Description
FY2024 statemap project - idahoproject period: june 1ST, 2024 may 31ST, 2025AWARD purposethe proposed revised new geologic mapping addresses the needs for timely and useful geologic data for the people of idaho and will serve the long-term goal of populating the entire state with detailed, 1:24,000-scale geologic maps, and up-to-date compilations and GIS geodatabases. This work serves the people of idaho by providing essential information for addressing issues related to geologic hazards (seismic and landslide), geothermal energies, hydrocarbon deposits, water resources, and aggregate supply. Mineral resources also play a crucial role in the economic health of idaho these resources include gold, silver, copper, phosphate, cobalt, zinc, and rare-earth elements. Quality geologic maps provide a geologic framework for these industries, which aids in exploration and development of potential and existing ORE deposits. These map data also benefit soil scientists and foresters, lending information that helps guide fertilization and land management.activitiesnew detailed geologic mapping in three project areas (weiser-boise, salmon, and ELK city).
