Description
- Activities
- (1) plan and coordinate a workshop on landslide preparedness and response capabilities with local officials and partners at the state of alaska and federal government. (2) collaborate with USGS to develop and implement a prototype in southeast alaska for a consistent and integrated statewide approach to landslide monitoring and provide recommendations for a cohesive strategy by the end of the period of performance. (3) continued program emphasis on targeted landslide hazard assessments and a robust statewide landslide inventory database. (4) continue providing logistical support to collaborative landslide fieldwork through contracting helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, and aircraft fuel. (5) continue to coordinate with communities throughout southcentral and southeast alaska, working to educate local leadership and residents about landslides and landslide hazard maps, and CO-developing workable strategies to meet the planning needs of individual communities. (6) continue to conduct fundamental research into the environmental, lithological, and climatic controls on the spatial and temporal distribution of landslides and their occurrence. (7) conduct targeted airborne ICE penetrating radar (aipr) surveys to determine ICE thickness and bed topography of glaciers associated with landslides to improve understanding of landslide dynamics and glacier evolution.deliverables and expected outcomes: (1) provide lidar elevation data, photogrammetric elevation, image data, and field geologic data when collected and processed to USGS and the public. (2) identify state, federal, and local government agencies to participate in the landslide hazards workshop. The workshop results will generate a whitepaper that defines each organization s role and responsibilities before, during, and after a disastrous landslide event. (3) continue to populate dggs s alaska landslide inventory (ALI). (4) maintain real-time accessto weather station data for relevant sites in alaska. (5) identify data gaps and resources needed for impending landslide investigations and or landslide monitoring programs. (6) continue to development relationships with alaska communities on improving access to public data networks that may be used as part of community hazard mitigation plans.intended beneficiary(IES): data and field samples from dggs collections are studied frequently by private engineering companies, universities, and state and federal agencies as a critical step in research, slope stability analysis, and land management, because modern examination of archived samples and data is widely recognized as a cost-effective alternative to the expense of new sampling and data collection in remote areas of alaska.
