About this award

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) awarded a $241,301 Cooperative Agreement to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MODNR) under the Earth Mapping Resources Initiative (CFDA 15.073) program. The two-year project will inventory the location, geology, and resource potential of existing mine waste within the state of Missouri. Key activities include compiling geospatial data, conducting field work and sampling at the Pea Ridge tailings impoundment, and analyzing samples at the USGS. The project will deliver an ArcGIS database following the USMIN format, as well as reports, maps, and aerial photography of the areas of interest which contain world-class mineral deposits such as the Tri-State Zinc-Lead District and Southeast Missouri Iron Metallogenic Province. The primary intended beneficiaries are the mine waste community in Missouri.
