Description

Project abstract summaryproject title: geologic mapping efforts toward increasing gems-compliant coverage of arizona project period: 09 05 2023 - 09 04 2023PURPOSE:the arizona geological survey has a long history of producing geologic maps in arizona. Thisproject continues that tradition with new geologic mapping in northwestern arizona, compilationof intermediate-scale maps of the safford area and santa cruz river valley south of tucsonalongside a synthesis of alluvial deposits and aggregate resources, and the development of aregional scale geologic map of the colorado plateau that is the first step towards a new geologicmap of arizona.activities:1. Geological mapping along i-40 east of kingman 2 quadrangles 2. Compilation geologic mapping of the santa cruz river valley and synthesis of alluvialdeposits and aggregate resources of the santa cruz river valley and tucson BASIN3. Compilation geologic mapping of the safford 30 x 60 QUADRAGLE4. Compilation geologic mapping of the colorado plateau region working towards a NEW1:500,000-scale geologic map of arizonadeliverables and outcomes:1. Geologic map and level 3 gems-compliant geodatabase of the rattlesnake hill 7 quadrangle, mohave county, ARIZONA2. Geologic map and level 3 gems-compliant geodatabase of the hualapai spring 7 quadrangle, mohave county, ARIZONA3. Surficial geologic map and level 3 gems-compliant database of part of the santa cruzriver valley, pima and santa cruz counties, ARIZONA4. Geologic map and level 3 gems-compliant database of alluvial deposits and aggregateresources of the tucson BASIN5. Geologic map and level 3 gems-compliant database of alluvial deposits and aggregateresources of the santa cruz river VALLEY6. Geologic map and level 3 gems-compliant database of the safford 30 x 60QUADRANGLE, graham county, ARIZONA7. Draft geologic map and level 3 gems-compliant geodatabase of the coloradoplateau region, ARIZONA8. Gems level 3 geodatabase of the cerbat 7 quadrangle, mohave county, arizona(https: ngmdb.USGS.GOV prodesc proddesc 19926.HTM)intended beneficiaries:arizona geological survey maps are intended to be used by numerous stakeholders, includingdecision policymakers, professional geologists in engineering, environmental, and mineralsgeology, student and academic geologists, and members of the public interested in their localgeology. The recipient anticipates the map products being particularly useful to planners and engineeringgeologists interested in resources for infrastructure development, environmental hydrogeologistsinterested in water resources, exploration mine geologists looking for mineral resources, andcommunity members wanting to identify existing geologic hazards.
