About this award

The University of Iowa was awarded a $182,594 Cooperative Agreement from the U.S. Geological Survey to support the National Ground-Water Monitoring Network (CFDA 15.980) program. Under this 2-year project, the Iowa Geological Survey, as a current data provider for the NGWMN, will enhance the water-level data it collects and delivers to the NGWMN data portal. Key activities include revising web services, installing continuous water-level monitoring equipment on 3 new wells and 1 modified existing well, and providing regular data updates to maintain the NGWMN registry. This will benefit the Iowa Geological Survey, water users in Iowa, and users of the NGWMN national water data network.

Description

This project is to support flow of the districts data to the national ground-water monitoring network (ngwmn) and to enhance the data collected by the provider for the ngwmn. During this project the iags will revise water-level web services under objective 2B, pump nine wells and modify an existing well, drill three new wells, and equip the three new wells and the modified well under with continuous water level monitoring. As part of the project the iags will: 1) deliver a project status report after one year of work, 2) keep the ngwmn monitoring location registry up to date with latest site metadata, 3) ensure that web services for the ngwmn continue to deliver data to the data portal, 4) upgrade water-level data web services, 5) provide data from three newly drilled wells and a modified existing well, and 6) produce a final report documenting all work accomplished during the project. The beneficiaries of the work will be the: iowa geological survey, water users within iowa, and users of the national ground-water monitoring network. In addition to work performed by iags staff, some of the project funds are for subrecipients. Work to modify the existing well and drill three new wells will be contracted to a licensed water well contractor.
