Description
The purpose of the irrigation program on the refuge is to maximize the quality and quantity of natural forage. Maximizing natural forage production is essential to refuge management as this is a critical food resource for migrating and overwintering ELK bison and pronghorn. This also reduces the total days of supplemental feeding for ELK and bison which in turn reduces risk to herd health and reduces expenses associated with supplemental feeding which benefits all refuges in region 6.
