Description

Partners across the northeastern US, within the breeding range of the saltmarsh sparrow, have been collaborating since 2010 to produce and coordinate the implementation of regional applied science for saltmarsh sparrows and other tidal marsh specialist species. Saltmarsh restoration efforts to support the saltmarsh sparrow have increased significantly over the past five years these projects protect the important ecosystem services, including protection of coastal infrastructure, provided by coastal marshes. In order to understand how these restoration approaches impact saltmarsh sparrow populations and tidal marsh birds, IT is vital to monitor before, during, and after restoration implementation occurs to fully measure avian response to restoration efforts. This work by suny-ESF will provide all aspects of support needed to conduct research and monitoring using the saltmarsh habitat avian research program (sharp) protocols at a suite of coastal marsh sites in the northeast.
