Description

As the agency reported it.

The project aims to promote awareness of the challenges for the conservation of the species in private lands where IT naturally occurs in the northwestern region of puerto rico. The puerto rican harlequin butterfly, its host plant, and essential habitat are being negatively affected by anthropogenic activities and natural events. Through this project, the communities that live in the surroundings of the butterflys natural habitat will be informed about the need to conserve the species and its habitat, and educational activities and hands on projects will be performed promoting public awareness on the species and for the protection of its habitat. In addition, the proposed educational and outreach activities to community members will allow the identification of private landowners interested in implementing restoration and enhancement practices in their properties to expand and improve essential habitat within the species distribution range
