Description
The minnesota valley national wildlife refuge and its wetland management district (refuge) and the minnesota valley national wildlife refuge trust, INC. (trust) will work cooperatively to (a) operate and support an extensive internship and apprenticeship program on the refuge and (b) build and nurture strong partnerships to ensure the refuge is an asset to the community. Under this cooperative agreement, the refuge and trust will cost-share two positions: the internship coordinator and the community engagement manager. Our mentoring the next generation of conservation professionals program, which is coordinated by the internship coordinator, will engage and mentor a diversity of young people in paid positions on the refuge over three years. This will include up to 36 high school students in year-round internships, 8 emerging professionals in two-year, full-time apprenticeships and 16 young professionals in one-year, full-time environmental education internships. The community engagement manager will maintain and grow refuge partnerships with community organizations and provide outdoor opportunities and nature exploration for the communities they serve. This will strengthen the refuge s role as an asset to the community.
