About this award
The Department of Energy awarded a $176,600,523 Cooperative Agreement to the Redwood Coast Energy Authority in Eureka, CA on January 1, 2025 under the Grid Infrastructure Deployment and Resilience (CFDA 81.254) federal grant program. The project team will plan and implement three front-of-meter community microgrids that will be owned and operated by federally recognized tribes. The existing behind-the-meter community microgrid owned and operated by BLR will also be expanded to interconnect three existing facility-scale microgrids across the reservation in a nested configuration. The project aims to modernize and enhance the electric grid infrastructure through investments in technology, infrastructure, and community resilience, with a focus on improving grid reliability, increasing renewable energy capacity, and strengthening infrastructure against climate-related disruptions in rural, tribal, and disadvantaged communities.
Description
The existing behind-the-meter community microgrid, owned and operated by BLR, will be expanded to interconnect three existing facility-scale microgrids that are geographically distributed across the reservation inside their main campus microgrid in a nested configuration.
