Description
- Purpose
- The purpose of this agreement is to carry out animal disease traceability activities that will yield valuable data for the award recipient, USDA-aphis, and other stakeholders involved with commodities under the animal disease traceability cooperative agreement. These efforts aim to address surveillance, preparedness, and response needs, ultimately safeguarding the nation's agriculture and fulfilling the goals of veterinary services (VS). 2.
- Activities
- The objective is to distribute and track official animal identification devices (electronic ear tags and allflex wand readers) to producers, area accredited veterinarians, and official tagging site/livestock auction. This will be achieved by conducting regular inspections and overseeing ear tag application and record keeping at the official tagging site/livestock auction and in-house data tracking of ear tags distributed directly from the delaware departments of agriculture's office (DDA). 3. Deliverables and expected outcomes: a) DDA intends to distribute electronic ear tags to accredited veterinarians in the area and to producers upon request. DDA livestock inspectors will oversee the application of these electronic tags at their sole official tagging site, which is also a livestock auction. This process takes place weekly, an average of 50 tags being applied on-site each week. B) DDA will supply temporary possession of allflex wand readers purchased from the award to all producers and accredited veterinarians in the area for data collection. C) data concerning electronic ear tags distributed directly from the office to accredited veterinarians and producers will be recorded in the animal identification management system (ainms). Electronic ear tags distributed or applied at the official tagging site/livestock auction will be recorded in usaherds. D) SCS- core one will be utilized to enter tuberculosis and brucellosis test charts and vaccination records. E) paper-based interstate certificates of veterinary inspection (icvis) are stored in the office and available upon request. Electronic cvis will be tracked in veterinary services process streamlining (vsps) and global VET link (GVL). F) DDA plans to transition to electronic cvis exclusively within a year. Outreach will be conducted to inform accredited veterinarians about this change. G) to establish a strong regulatory presence at the official tagging site and livestock auction by conducting weekly inspections and overseeing ear tag applications. DDA also intends to conduct educational outreach to the auction manager and personnel. H) to perform an annual national traceability performance measures exercise assigned by USDA-aphis-VS. 4. Intended beneficiary(IES): the primary beneficiaries of this award are nationwide agricultural commodities, with delaware's food and fiber animal producers benefiting significantly. Additionally, area accredited veterinarians, the delaware department of agriculture (recipient), and USDA-aphis also benefit by being able to efficiently track animal movement intrastate and interstate.
