About this award
The Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service awarded a cooperative agreement of $1,365,880 to Resonant Health, Inc. on February 2, 2026, under the Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care program (CFDA 10.025) to evaluate and validate radiofrequency antiviral technology as a tool to reduce mortality from highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry flocks.
Resonant will conduct in vitro and in vivo testing using an H5N1 strain of HPAI in partnership with PoulPharm, a contract research organization, and will design, develop, and evaluate a proof-of-concept veterinary device for safe and effective delivery of radiofrequency treatment in poultry under laboratory conditions. Preliminary studies have demonstrated dose-dependent antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2, H5N1, poliovirus, and adenovirus at safe radiofrequency power levels while increasing cell viability and reducing viral yield.
Deliverables include laboratory-validated data on radiofrequency efficacy against HPAI clade 2.3.4.4B, results from animal studies demonstrating safety and mortality reduction in infected birds, a functional radiofrequency veterinary prototype, technical documentation, and peer-reviewed publications to support regulatory consideration. Work is performed in Austin, Texas, with a period of performance through July 31, 2027. The project aims to establish the foundation for a scalable, non-pharmaceutical intervention enabling poultry producers to integrate radiofrequency treatment into existing biosecurity programs during HPAI outbreaks.
Description
Resonant health INC. (resonant) has demonstrated promising preliminary results showing broad-spectrum antiviral activity of RF treatment based on preliminary frequency testing across multiple viruses. In sars-COV-2 studies, RF treatment demonstrated a significant dose-dependent response for viral inactivation at safe RF power levels, while increasing cell viability and reducing viral yield. Early tests with H5N1, poliovirus, and adenovirus also suggest antiviral activity, supporting further investigation into RF as an antiviral. Therefore, here will include in vitro and in vivo testing using an H5N1 strain of hpai, in partnership with poulpharm, a reputable contract research organization (CRO). In parallel, resonant will design, develop, and evaluate a proof-of-concept veterinary device for the safe and effective delivery of RF treatment in poultry under laboratory conditions. Through these activities, the project seeks to establish the scientific and technical foundation for a scalable, non-pharmaceutical intervention to mitigate the spread and impact of hpai among domestic poultry. Deliverables from this effort include laboratory-validated data on RF efficacy against hpai (clade 2.3.4.4B), results from animal studies demonstrating safety and mortality reduction in infected birds, and a functional RF veterinary prototype. Technical documentation and peer reviewed publications will be produced to support regulatory consideration and inform the poultry health community. Our commercialization goal is to produce a novel and affordable antiviral device, such that poultry producers can integrate IT into existing biosecurity programs, limiting viral transmission and protecting flock health during hpai outbreaks. The intended beneficiaries of this work are poultry farmers, veterinarians, and animal health officials who face limited options for preventing the spread of infection and treating infected birds. This innovative technology serves as a standalone solution while also offering potential for integration with other methods. This project ensures effective outbreak management and supports national and international priorities for hpai control. In addition to reducing economic losses in the poultry industry, this work may help minimize zoonotic spillover risk and contri bute to broader food security and pandemic preparedness goals.
