About this award

The Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) awarded a cooperative agreement totaling $475,000 to the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets on July 13, 2026, to conduct a Spotted Lanternfly detection and prevention program across New York State.

The recipient will execute detection surveys to document Spotted Lanternfly presence statewide, conduct delimitation surveys to prioritize treatment areas, and implement chemical treatments in grape-growing regions targeting high-risk infestations near valuable vineyard acreage. The award also funds public outreach and coordination with municipalities, government officials, regulated industries (trucking, landscaping), and affected sectors (vineyards, tourism). APHIS will conduct parallel treatments at high-risk port locations. Expected outcomes include early detection of newly infested areas, suppression of key infestations, and protection of New York's high-value grape and fruit industries, with secondary benefits to neighboring states' agricultural sectors and the general public.

Performance runs through July 12, 2027, with all work conducted in New York. No sub-recipients are specified at the time of award.
