THE PURPOSE OF THIS AWARD IS TO SUPPORT OHIO'S EFFORTS TO CONDUCT EARLYDETECTION MONITORING AND SURVEY ACTIVITIES TARGETING FIVE EXOTIC PINE PESTS NOT KNOWN TO OCCUR IN THE UNITED STATES, ENABLING REGULATORY AND PESTMANAGEMENT DECISIONMAKING AND SUPPORTING TRADE CONFIDENCE. ODA WILL CARRY OUT VISUAL INSPECTIONS, DEPLOY AND MAINTAIN PHEROMONE TRAPS, COLLECT AND SCREEN SAMPLES, SUBMIT SUSPECT DETECTIONS FOR FEDERAL CONFIRMATION, EDUCATE LANDOWNERS, AND ENTER ALL SURVEY DATA INTO NAPIS IN ALIGNMENT WITH APHIS GOAL 1S STRATEGIES. DELIVERABLES INCLUDE COMPLETION OF TWO SURVEY PERIODS, PROPER TRAP MAINTENANCE, ACCURATE DIAGNOSTIC WORK, AND TIMELY SUBMISSION OF INTERIM, FINAL, AND FINANCIAL REPORTS, WITH EXPECTED OUTCOMES SUCH AS CONFIRMATION OF PEST PRESENCE OR ABSENCE, IDENTIFICATION OF INFESTED OR ATRISK LOCATIONS, CONTRIBUTIONS TO NATIONAL PESTRISK DATABASES, AND STRENGTHENED CONFIDENCE AMONG DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL TRADING PARTNERS. IF THE SURVEY IS NOT PERFORMED, OHIO WOULD RISK DELAYED DETECTION OF INVASIVE PESTS THAT COULD HARM NATURAL AND COMMERCIAL CONIFER RESOURCES, REDUCE LUMBER AND NURSERY PRODUCTIVITY, DISRUPT FOREST ECOSYSTEMS, AND UNDERMINE VITAL REGULATORY AND TRADE FUNCTIONS.
