About this award

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) awarded the Oregon Department of Agriculture a $198,764 Cooperative Agreement under the Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care program (CFDA 10.025) for the period April 1, 2025 through March 31, 2026. The agreement supports comprehensive animal disease surveillance, investigation, and emergency response activities across multiple livestock and poultry sectors. Key deliverables include active and passive surveillance of poultry flocks under the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP), avian influenza testing, biosecurity inspections of commercial facilities, tuberculosis eradication efforts for cattle, support for bovine spongiform encephalopathy sampling and investigations, and scrapie eradication programs for sheep, goats, cervids, and equines.

Additionally, the agreement encompasses cross-sector zoonotic disease surveillance and response coordination through One Health multiagency initiatives, including investigation of atypical canine respiratory cases. The Oregon Department of Agriculture will maintain emergency preparedness and depopulation supplies, conduct outreach and training programs, facilitate emergency preparedness workshops, complete monthly disease reporting through the National Animal Health Reporting System, and support foreign animal disease investigation and control activities. These integrated services advance the APHIS mission to protect U.S. agriculture from economically injurious animal diseases and pests while ensuring appropriate emergency response capabilities.
