Description
The award will also enhance compliance regarding animal ID requirements for interstate movements. Activities to be performed: the recipient will participate in required national priority tracing exercises to determine current capabilities. To increase the volume and accuracy of traceability data in usaherds, KDA-DAH continues to increase the efficiency of how they disseminate, receive and input information. Most notably, they will accomplish this through advancing electronic sharing of data between state animal health officials, veterinarians, and industry; and by elevating the discussion with industry to work toward a system where animal health certificates are electronically transmitted from private veterinarians to state animal health officials. Progress toward these goals will continue on, measurably improving animal disease tracing capabilities in kansas. Distributed tag records will be monitored by spot-checking tag numbers, requesting reports by recipients. Specific efforts in these areas will include: 1 - increasing the number of livestock market veterinarians submitting records through KDA backtag, their software program designed for market chart data collection and seamless transfer to KDA-DAH. 2 - increasing the number of level II accredited veterinarians submitting test records through a spreadsheet instead of paper or PDF forms. Spreadsheets substantially decrease data entry into usaherds and increase data accuracy. 3 - increasing tag distribution records received. In order to receive the free USDA rfid tags, veterinarians agree to submit tag distribution records to KDA-DAH for those tags. Records may include cvis, OCV charts, other vaccination/test records, or tag distribution records. To increase the volume and accuracy of traceability data in usaherds, KDA-DAH will continue to focus outreach, education, and compliance on the kansas cattle industry, specifically accredited veterinarians, and livestock market operators. A full-time ADT coordinator, with support from KDA-DAH office and field/state veterinarians will: (1) advertise the benefits of rfid technologies, and strongly encourage the use of them as an official identification method, including standard 840-rfid and OCV-specific 840-rfid. (2) encourage the use of electronic cvis, and provide technical support to veterinarians and their staff to encourage timely, electronic submission of these forms to the KDA-DAH office. (3) outreach to impacted sectors to implement available technologies or develop new. (4) participate in and host regional and statewide meetings to educate stakeholders about ADT. (5) maintain a headcount of meeting attendees throughout the year to determine scope of outreach efforts. (6) attend national meetings for professional development to remain up-to-date on national traceability activities. Additionally, KDA-DAH staff will participate in and/or lead foreign animal disease (FAD) exercises - statewide (full scale, tabletop) and regionally (tabletop). The state animal health commissioner places heavy emphasis on planning for and testing procedures in the event of an FAD outbreak. Deliverables and expected outcomes: the goals of the proposed activities are spelled out in the proposed activities and measure of success will be delivered by quarterly reporting of activities performed. Intended beneficiary(IES): the intended beneficiaries of these activities include the nations livestock producers as well as the united state department of agriculture. Subrecipient activities, if known or specified at the time of award: i do not anticipate any sub-award activities.
