Description

This is year 3 of this PPA7721 funded project. Using FY24 funds, the researchers will test the efficacy of different insecticide formulations against spinosad resistant flies in field cages and in the field in areas with known high levels of resistance. They will also begin selecting for spinosad resistance in oriental fruit fly lab colonies to generate additional resistant strains of another species for testing the alternative insecticides. The expected outcomes of this project will be product efficacy data on 4 different classes of insecticide against melon fly, a spinosad resistant colony of oriental fruit fly, and a final report. Beneficiaries will include USDA, the state of hawaii, and industries that will gain practical knowledge on the best tools to control resistant populations of melon fly and oriental fruit fly.
