Description
Digitalmicroscopy (DM) will play an expanded role in highly complex veterinarydiagnostic laboratories to support of the nahln mission forcollaborative and standardized diagnostic testing.nationwide, veterinary diagnostic laboratories are facing shortages inworkforce to keep laboratories running efficiently and able to respondto emerging infectious diseases. The sars‐COV‐2 pandemic bothcomplicated the problem but also found suitable alternatives to achievenahln mission critical work from remote connections. Animal healthofficials were able to quickly share information digitally, but therewere, and continue to be, gaps in infrastructure. At the wisconsinveterinary diagnostic laboratory (wvdl), we are growing with expansionof our poultry diagnostic facility and our caseload to help statesaround thenation combat chronic wasting disease (CWD)addition to DM for whole slide scanning will increase the response andcapacity of the wvdl in 3 ways:1. Improve ability to recruit highly qualified diagnostic pathologistswith remote work capabilities viaenhanced ability to rapidly distribute diagnostic materials.2. Continue to respond to the growing national caseload for chronicwasting disease (CWD), anahln scope disease.3. Growth and renovation of our barron facility, which serves theexpanding wisconsin poultryindustries and will apply for designation as a nahln laboratory.no subawards.
