About this award

This $364,370 cooperative agreement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service will support the development of new pest response guidelines for the Plant Protection and Quarantine program. North Carolina State University will work with program staff to determine which pests require guidelines, perform literature reviews on the selected pests, and write guidelines for each pest assigned. The guidelines will include taxonomy, biology, ecology, important hosts, dispersal ability, identification tools, survey methods, and available management options. A minimum of eight new pest response guidelines will be completed by the end of the period of performance in May 2023. The efforts under this award will benefit the emergency response team and other USDA stakeholders by informing decisions after the detection of a new pest in the United States. This funding supports the goals of the Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care federal grant program (CFDA No. 10.025) to protect U.S. agriculture from economically injurious plant and animal diseases and pests.
