About this award

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 9 awarded the City of Chino a $2.0 million Cooperative Agreement under the Congressionally Mandated Projects program (CFDA 66.202) effective May 27, 2025, with a completion deadline of December 31, 2027. This award funds the design, environmental assessment, engineering support, and construction of a centralized groundwater treatment plant to reactivate Wells 12 and 14. The project deliverables include design and construction bid documents, quarterly progress reports, and a final completion report documenting the implementation of treatment measures and related infrastructure improvements.

The construction and installation services encompass pre-treatment equipment, granular activated carbon (GAC) systems, regenerable ion exchange systems, replacement of groundwater well equipment, control system integration, and installation of brine waste pipelines, water distribution lines, and fiber optic lines. Upon completion, these improvements will enhance the City of Chino's water supply resilience by addressing current and emerging water contaminants, reducing reliance on imported water sources, and providing clean drinking water to the community. No sub-awards are included in this assistance agreement.
