This project is intended to benefit CUC operations staff and the broader CNMI community by restoring efficient water system operations on Saipan. The award period is from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2027.

Description

This agreement provides funding to the commonwealth utilities corporation to implement its project to design the remediation of the collapsed underground storage tank at the sadog tasi wastewater treatment plant as directed in the 2024 consolidated appropriations act or as identified in an approved technical correction if one has been approved for this project. This agreement provides full federal funding in the amount of $959,752. See terms and conditions. Activities:the activities to be performed include the execution and implementation of a design for designing the remediation of the collapsed underground storage tank at the sadog tasi wastewater treatment plant project. Workplan activities consist of: preparing a scope of work, budget estimate, and contract documents for award of the design contract along with project management. Subrecipient:no subawards are included in this assistance agreement.outcomes:the anticipated deliverables include design for the remediation of the collapsed underground storage tank at the sadog tasi wastewater treatment plant. In august 30, 2022, an underground water storage tank with a diameter of 130 feet and volume of 3 million gallons collapsed, separating the water and wastewater offices from the sadog tasi wastewater treatment plant. Structural and geotechnical experts were deployed to the site, designating a 50-meter buffer zone from the collapse as a restricted area. The buffer zone included the wastewater operations office and water and wastewater division manager's office. This resulted in CUC having to split CUC operations personnel between 3 different locations on saipan. The expected outcomes include regaining access to the buildings in the buffer safety, and having a centralized operations center for STP. The intended beneficiaries include CUC operations staff who were previously located at the sadog tasi treatment plant. Regaining access to these buildings will benefit the people of cnmi by allowing for more efficient operations of the water system in saipan.
