About this award

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 9 awarded a Congressionally Mandated Projects (CFDA 66.202) Cooperative Agreement of $1.45 million to the Occidental County Sanitation District, effective March 31, 2025, with completion targeted for February 1, 2027. This agreement funds the engineering design and planning phase for a wastewater transfer infrastructure project consisting of approximately 30,000 feet of 4-inch diameter pipeline to convey wastewater from the District's lift station to the Graton Community Service District's wastewater treatment plant. Key deliverables include comprehensive engineering design documents, a project engineering report, draft easement agreements, progress reports, and grant closeout documentation. The project was approved with preaward costs retroactive to March 31, 2025, and includes no subawards.

The project is intended to produce cost efficiencies and rate stability for both the Occidental and Graton communities through elimination of expensive wastewater hauling operations, with anticipated environmental benefits including a significant reduction in vehicle emissions (approximately 50 round-trip haul vehicle trips weekly). The constructed infrastructure will serve the communities of Occidental and Graton upon project completion.
