Description
- Description
- The agreement provides funding to nebraska's wetland conservation and decision-making capabilities by addressing, the map inundation conditions in agricultural crop land and grasslands. In addition to identify lands exhibiting periodic inundation conditions for maximum green house gases (GHG) reduction potential, and collaborate with partners to prioritize future enrollment in conservation programs or restoration projects with a particular focus on disadvantaged communities. Activities:the activities performed of this project aims to significantly improve the technical skills, management efficiency, and overall capacity of wetland conservation programs. IT will achieve this by offering technical assistance and developing research support for the various wetland management agencies and their partners.subrecipient:no subawards are included in this assistance agreement.outcomes:the anticipated deliverables include: quarterly progress reports and final report, including developing a methodology to map inundation conditions in nebraska's agricultural lands; a geodatabase illustrating the most suitable lands for significant GHG emission reduction, and a set of maps highlighting areas with the highest potential for future wetland conservation and restoration. The expected outcomes include: advanced management capacity by using an evidence-based decision-making support tool, improved knowledge and actions to prioritize wetland conservation, as carbon sinks, to reduce GHG emission, prioritized emphasis in the disadvantaged communities by ensuring the CO-benefits of wetland restoration and environmental justice, achieved the 'win-win' multi-objectives for wetland habitat conservation and agricultural land protection, improvement of collaborative decision-making processes involving multiple agencies, and enhancement of the environmental and economic performance of working agricultural lands through prudent land use practices. The intended beneficiaries include the state and federal objectives, aiming to achieve a 'no-net-loss of wetlands' and improve the quality and quantity of wetlands in nebraska. This will be accomplished by restoring and safeguarding unique wetland resources using new funding sources, achieving multi-objectives in wetland conservation, climate mitigation, and social justice. The anticipated outcomes include: (1) enhancement of technical capabilities: implementing a satellite-based, free-access, near-real-time, long-term monitoring platform for land selection, site assessment, and the decision-making process. (2) improved knowledge and actions: prioritizing the most frequently inundated lands for conservation, acting as carbon sinks to reduce GHG emissions and mitigate climate change. (3) prioritized emphasis in disadvantaged communities: aiming to achieve the CO-benefits of wetland restoration and environmental justice through providing evidence-based maps to support decision making in the disadvantaged communities. (4) attainment of 'win-win' outcomes: simultaneously addressing multiple objectives, including wetland habitat conservation, GHG emission reduction, water quality improvement, and flood mitigation. (5) improvement of collaborative decision-making processes: involving multiple agencies in evaluating land suitability, verifying potential success, and providing robust evidence for joint decisions among governmental agencies, non-profit conservation organizations, and landowners. (6) enhancement of the environmental and economic performance of working agricultural lands:
