About this award
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 2 awarded the Township of Teaneck a $700,000 Cooperative Agreement on September 1, 2025, under the Congressionally Mandated Projects program (CFDA 66.202) to rehabilitate the existing sewer main infrastructure along Old New Bridge Road. The project encompasses comprehensive wastewater infrastructure construction activities, including test pit excavation and television (TV) inspection of the existing sewer system to assess current conditions, installation of approximately 800 linear feet of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sewer pipe with associated lateral connections and precast concrete manholes, and road resurfacing work including concrete curbing, sidewalks, and reinforced aprons. No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
The project will replace a 90-year-old clay sewer pipe system that has been experiencing chronic failures, including frequent sewer breakages, backups, and overflow issues exacerbated by stormwater flooding events along Old New Bridge Road. Upon completion by March 31, 2027, the modernized sewer infrastructure is expected to eliminate recurring sewage backup problems, improve stormwater management capabilities, and provide long-term system functionality and reliability for the residents and businesses of Teaneck located in the project area.
