About this award

Mount Olive Township received a $750,000 Cooperative Agreement from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 2 under the Congressionally Mandated Projects program (CFDA 66.202), effective May 1, 2026, with a completion deadline of April 30, 2028. The award funds a stormwater infrastructure construction project designed to improve drainage and reduce pollutant discharge into Budd Lake in Budd Lake, New Jersey. The project deliverables include retrofitting eighteen storm drain inlets and installing three stormwater manufactured treatment devices (MTDs) across Cedar Street, McKelvie Street, Johnson Avenue, and Route 46 within Mount Olive Township.

The implementation activities encompass the complete construction cycle for inlet retrofitting—including roadway excavation, removal of existing drainage infrastructure, installation of new drains with proper connections, soil backfilling, and asphalt restoration—as well as site preparation, excavation, placement, and connection of the three MTD units. The anticipated outcomes include decreased sediment and phosphorus inputs into Budd Lake and improved overall water quality. The township will directly implement all project activities with no subawards identified. The intended beneficiaries include Mount Olive Township residents and visitors.
