About this award
The Comanche Nation received a $100,000 Cooperative Agreement from the Administration for Community Living (ACL) under the Elder Justice Act – Adult Protective Services program (CFDA 93.698), awarded September 30, 2025, with a completion date of September 29, 2027. The award funds the Comanche Nation Adult Protective Services (APS) initiative on behalf of the Comanche Nation Elderly Center to prevent and address elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation within the tribal community. Key deliverables include expanding APS services for tribal elders; developing culturally appropriate educational materials and community awareness initiatives addressing elder abuse; strengthening existing tribal APS codes and developing new codes to detect elder maltreatment; conducting collaborative assessments with state and tribal organizations to identify trends and barriers to elder justice; developing training modules for APS staff and community members on elder abuse detection and prevention; and engaging with at least one ACL National Resource Center or Aging Network organization to access specialized resources and information on elder abuse within Indian Country.
This cooperative agreement represents a specialized demonstration project within a predominantly formula-grant program, reflecting the Administration for Community Living's focus on supporting tribal nations in enhancing coordinated adult protective services systems. The two-year project period aligns with standard Elder Justice Act funding cycles and positions the Comanche Nation to deliver multidisciplinary elder protection activities tailored to the unique legal, cultural, and operational context of tribal governance.
