Description
Texas disaster assistance for state units on aging and tribal organizations - the texas health and human services commission (hhsc) office of area agencies on aging (oaaa), in partnership with the alamo area agency on aging (AAA), capital AAA, central texas AAA, and concho valley AAA, will use the administration for community living's (ACL) disaster assistance to address gaps in disaster services and support unmet needs of older adults and family caregivers impacted by the july 2025 flooding event. The ultimate goal of this project is to help older adults who are 60 and older and their family caregivers stabilize post-disaster while continuing to live within their local community. The project will augment current disaster recovery efforts through the following objectives: 1) provide emergency supportive services through case management; 2) provide nutritional services to older adults who are unable to meet the basic need of nutritional food and water; and 3) offer family caregiver support services to help navigate disaster resources available and address unmet needs of their care recipient. All three objectives are focused on stabilization, recovery, and living safely in the community post-disaster. The anticipated outcome of the planned project activities is for fewer older adults to experience unmet disaster-related needs in the targeted communities declared as a major disaster. The expected resources will include emergency utility and housing assistance; replacement of durable medical equipment, grocery, medicine, and personal care items; nutritious home delivered meals, grab and go meals, shelf stable foods; emergency homemaker and transportation services; and communication/technology devices.
