The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center awarded a $750,000 Cooperative Agreement (80NSSC25M0006) to the University of Alaska Fairbanks on October 1, 2025, under the Office of STEM Engagement (OSTEM) program (CFDA 43.008). The award supports authentic learning experiences connecting students to NASA's mission and work, with particular focus on Arctic environmental change and how rapid warming in the region—occurring at nearly four times the global rate—affects the biosphere, land surfaces, wildfire patterns, permafrost degradation, and carbon dioxide and methane emissions. Performance occurs in Fairbanks, Alaska, with a completion date of September 30, 2028. The Office of STEM Engagement seeks to attract students to STEM through unique learning opportunities that spark interest and provide connections to NASA's people and mission, building the next generation workforce in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to maintain America's position as a global innovation leader.
