Description

Activities
Airt will perform the following:- set up and calibrate training courses at fire departments, public safety agencies, and conference venues where test data will be collected anonymously and aggregated.- conduct testing on a representative set of suas to validate the associated apparatuses, procedures, metrics, and forms for credentialing purposes in support of both astm and nfpa standards committees.- investigate uses and methods for the teaming of ground and aerial robots.- propose refinements to the test methods in support of the standardization process.- record and analyze suas and ground robot performance data to establish the reproducibility of the test methods and capture aggregated pilot proficiency average and best-in-class performance for generalized comparison purposes.- develop materials, such as construction and training guides, that guide public safety organizations in establishing test facilities based around standard test methods.- develop guidance for embedding the standard test method apparatuses into operational training scenarios as repeatable tasks to compare scoring over time at each venue. The resulting scores would not be comparable across facilities, but the guidance will be very helpful for trainers conducting operational readiness assessments prior to deployments.
Expected outcomes
The focus is on disseminating information and promoting broader adoption of NIST-developed standards. Airt has the ability to carry out these events more effectively than NIST would with the same resources, given that the events are more outreach than basic research focused. The potential outcomes from these events will be beneficial for future standards work and the adoption of standards in the public safety domain.
Intended beneficiaries
The beneficiaries will be public safety and emergency response organizations nationwide who will use the resulting test methods to guide procurements and train with measures of remote pilot proficiency. The public will also benefit as emergency response organizations become equipped with better life-saving tools and tactics, along with standards-based credentialing that will facilitate mutual aid at large scale disasters.
Subrecipient activities
