Description
- Purpose
- The purpose of this grant is to develop methods for measuring the performance of automated driving systems (ADS) in collaboration with the NIST seri funded project on-road automated vehicles measurement science. The research will generate an evaluation framework and simulation test environments using digital twins to assess the ever-growing number of ADS technologies.
- Activities
- The proposal will perform the following activities:1) test scenario selection ? They will develop the test scenario to be used in other tasks to evaluate the ADS systems.2) selecting sensor models ? They will conduct a survey of available sensor models to find ones that are capable of directly supporting the simulation testbed.3) creating a digital twin ? They will create a digital twin to connect the simulation environments used in testing with the real-world vehicles being tested.4) incorporating communications into the simulation testbed ? They will incorporate the vehicle to everything (V2X) communications protocols into the simulations testbed in order to facilitate those technologies in the testing.5) creating scenario of interest for real-world testing ? They will develop a scenario that will incorporate all of the above work into IT and perform the testing in the real-world.6) exercising the simulation ? They will incorporate the modifications from the previous tasks back into the simulation testbed to allow the cycle to rapidly test new approaches and technologies.
- Expected outcomes
- The project outcomes will support industry stakeholders in improving transportation safety and vehicle system performance standards developers.
- Intended beneficiaries
- Automakers, suppliers, technology companies, future automated vehicle end-users, manufacturers, U.S. Industrysubrecipient activities: the recipient does not intend to subaward funds.
