Description

Purpose
The purpose of this grant is to develop standard test methods relating to robotic grasping, contact-safety, and contact-rich robot simulation.
Activities
The recipient will develop final drafts for several grasp-type end-effector performance tests, including tests for grasp strength, in-hand manipulation, and slip resistance. The recipient will also perform a literature review and develop a workshop covering contact-rich simulation research. The recipient will also participate in standardization efforts such as ISO 299 WG8 and astm F45.05 to translate the test methods discussed above into accepted standards.
Expected outcomes
This research will produce standard test methods relating to robotic grasping and contact-safety, which will be disseminated through standards organizations (including astm international and the ISO).
Intended beneficiaries
Industrial manufacturers that use (or would like to use) robots with grasping capabilities would benefit from the standards and test methods produced by this proposal.
Subrecipient activities
The recipient does not intend to subaward funds.
