Description

15 U.S.C. 272(b)(1) and (c)(12)purpose - the purpose of this proposed effort is to take research results developed through prior work with NIST and deploy them on two fronts: 1) provide major updates to ISO 10303 standard for the exchange of product model data (step) geometric modeling documentation and capabilities, and 2) deploy and test a fully model-based publication stack with continuous integration capability for the ISO 10303 standard. Activities to be performed - the grantee will work with key standards development and implementation organizations to analyze requirements, survey existing standards, and develop information models for priority areas defined by U.S. Industry, through the following activities as described in its proposal: reorganize and augment ISO 10303-42 geometry and topology and align to theory; express schema layout modifications for readers; update fundamental concepts and assumptions; add citations, figures, examples; provide oversight of or author CAX recommended practice updates to reflect changes; update mathematical expressions to common source encoding format for all of ISO 10303-42; update ISO 10303-2 with new and modified ISO 10303-42 terms and definitions; develop isogeometric analysis (IGA) capability for ISO 10303; gather requirements, develop plan, build consensus; identify existing and new model entities, develop new application modules; integrate with existing geometry and PMI integration layer and with analysis resources; provide over- sight of or author CAX recommended practices for IGA; replace stepmod with stepaem repository; convert source data (XML/PDF/latex) to fully qualified asciidoc representation; and integrate asciidoc and express files into a single model-based file to form an annotated express model (AEM) that may be consumed by the standards-based metanorma publication software and continuous inte- gration processes for delivery of the documents: conduct implementation testing for aspects of the system, and document new WG12 workflows.expected outcomes - ISO 10303 provides a crucial vendor-neutral representation to support a variety of product development needs such as the exchange of design data, product and manufacturing information (PMI), and its integration with downstream manufacturing applications. This proposed work will provide generational updates and improvements to geometric modeling in step, including delivery of neutral isogeometric analysis data translation and storage capabilities. The research will reduce the cost of step standard development, improve standards quality, and reduce time-to-market of step standards. Intended beneficiaries - beneficiaries of this work are standards developers and their organizations, who will benefit from knowledge transfer of step development expertise as they work with the PI, TOM thurman, and from more efficient workflows in document publication processes. Implementers of step will benefit from the high quality of standards specifications and support they will receive in documenting recommended practices. Users of CAD software will benefit through increasingly capable communication of information between CAD systems and to downstream manufacturing processes. Engineering analysis practitioners will benefit from a reliable and long-lived format for IGA translation, exchange, and data storage. Small to medium sized manufacturers will benefit from improved data translation and communications with oems. Oems will benefit from the improved communication of data in the supply chain and faster time-to-market of new step capabilities. Consumers will benefit from lower-cost products.
