Description

Purpose
The purpose of this cooperative agreement is to enhance the CO-simulation platform, the universal cyber-physical systems (CPS) environment for federation (ucef), with additional capabilities for integrating simulations particularly networked infrastructures.
Activities
The research plan includes (a) creating focused, domain-specificmodel-integrated simulation environments, (b) using these environments for conducting system-of-systems level integrated evaluation of networked smart infrastructures, (c) generating integrated simulation-based training data for artificial intelligence-based decision-support algorithms, and (d) enabling creation of libraries of reusable (and interoperable) platformcomponents. The planned tasks are important concepts for improving the CO-simulation platform for CPS experiments.
Expected outcomes
The research if successful can have potential for broad impact since IT addresses an important challenge in CPS simulation related to tool integration across multiple domains. There is a need to provide improved CO-simulation capabilities to address CPS development, deployment, and operation. The planned research will enhance the ucef features set and improve its capabilities. The ability to support integration of multiple simulated communication networks as well as multiple integrated simulations will enhance the tool?s performance. The results will enable ucef to support the broader research community to develop domain-specific models that can be integrated in a CO-simulation platform.
Intended beneficiaries
This research would create a leading CPS simulation-testbed research platform that will support new functionality and analyses of CPS development, deployment and operation. By creating an accessible open-source based simulation tool, IT can reduce market barriers for small CPS enterprises and promote competition for consumers. In addition, IT could lead to more reliable CPS/internet of things products for consumers interested in new technologies.
