Description

Nelson villoria and jesse tack from kansas state university will work with the office of the chief economist (OCE) to examine the role of agricultural trade and spatial correlation in adaptation to climate change. The joint effort will provide an extensive review of the existing literature and separately conduct examination of how spatial correlation in crop yield shocks relates to agricultural trade and potential adaptive effects. This project focuses on intersection between climate change, agriculture, and trade. While examination of this area is not new, the current literature is either outdate or incomplete, and further the empirical evidence is not clearly understood. This CO-OP would fill this research GAP. The research will help inform policy makers of the possible ways trade can be a source of adaption to ongoing climate change and identify areas of further needed empirical study. The findings will be useful for both trade and climate change policy discussions. The project would also complement other USDA research efforts in the trade and environmental area.
