Description
The arkansas association of chiefs of police, (aacp) and the arkansas law enforcement accreditation program (aleap) will use FY24 CPD accreditation funding tosupport our law enforcement agencies in obtaining state accreditation. Our project to foster and encourage professionalism and community relations through accreditation aims to support eligible law enforcement agencies to cover the cost of accreditation, which will increase the number of accredited agencies across arkansas. Accreditation has shown that agencies improve their performance once they have successfully gone through the process. In addition, IT enhances community trust, and reduces agency and municipality liability. By assisting these agencies to accomplish accreditation, our mission is to help advance law enforcement professionalism, and help in making safer communities. IT is aacp and aleaps goal to make state accreditation more accessible for arkansas agencies that are limited in resources and to promote professionalism and accountability within the law enforcement community. If awarded the grant, our funding will go to cover expenses related to accreditation by making training available to the agencies, software expenses, assistance with the adoption of the aacp policies, some building material expenses and creating a mentor program that will be available to agencies with all aspects of the process. The aacp and aleap will market the accreditation program by several different methods. The grant approval wouldbe broadcast at the 56TH annual aacp conference in hot springs, AR september 24TH-26TH, 2024. We normally have over 200 police chiefs and command staff officers that will attend during our general sessions. During our awards banquet atthe conference, we acknowledge our newly accredited and RE-accredited agencies with the presentation of a beautiful plaque/certificate and we wouldannouncetothe attendees the opportunity to seek assistance from aleap and to achieve their goal of being accredited and obtaining their own plaque/certificate. Also, the aacp will broadcast the grant information over our social network avenues, on the aacp website arkchiefs.ORG, and multiple mass emails through constant contact. Because of the close ties with the arkansas municipal league, we will be able to disseminate the information via their listserv that makes up the over 400 mayors and city managers across the state. These individuals typically want to see their police agencies to be part of an accrediting program to show their public that the police are using the best practices to protect them and their property.
